About

A trusted steward of forgotten identities.

Still Mill exists to ensure that no historical photograph loses its story. Through collaborative identification and evidence-based historical research, we help reconnect unidentified people in historical photographs with their names, families, and legacies, while that knowledge can still be gathered.

Purpose

Why Still Mill exists today — to help record identities that would otherwise be forgotten.

Mission

What we do every day: connect historical photographs with the collective knowledge of families and communities.

Vision

To create the world's most trusted collaborative platform for reconnecting photographs with the people they represent.

The problem we're solving

Millions of historical photographs exist in family collections, archives, museums, antique stores, and online marketplaces without names, dates, or context. As generations pass, the knowledge needed to identify the people in these photographs often disappears, disconnecting families from their history.

Our solution

Still Mill provides a collaborative online platform where users can upload historical photographs, share research, contribute evidence, and work together to identify unknown individuals. By combining genealogy, historical research, and community collaboration, the platform helps organize, document, and share historical photographs and their research histories.

A Project of CLAS Roots

Still Mill is part of the CLAS Roots family of initiatives. While it maintains its own identity, it shares CLAS Roots' commitment to documenting family history, honoring communities, and keeping historical memory accessible.
